Danish Teak Furniture

Teak is a type of tree that is local in Asia. Scientifically named as Tectona grandis, the name teak is believed to have been derived from the Malayalam work, Thekku.

Early civilization has benefited from learning how to use teak, using it in various practicle ways which they have needed. Since the material is very durable, most of these items can still be seen today. A lot of early ships were also built using teak, since the hardwood holds up quite well in the sea.

The golden brown timber is usually used in the production of boats, and most outdoor furniture – especially where weather resistance is essential. Some craftsmen also use this material in making doors, columns or beams in older type houses, or wood frames. It can also be used for indoor flooring, or as a veneer. The versatility of this material shows how valuable it really is.

The popularity of teak was raised during the 1950s and 1960s when Danish Modern came into focus. Masterpieces by great artists like Finn Juhl can still be seen today. The beauty of Danish teak furniture is that it really stands the test of time. These classic pieces are made from highly durable material that will not rot or shrink due to heat. The natural oils of teak prevent it from deteriorating which helps with the preservation of the furniture.

Although some of these pieces may come with a heavy price tag, investing in these classic works of art can definitely be worthwhile. The timeless look and design of each creation assures you that you can never go out of style with Danish teak.
